Into The Jungle at Khao Sok National Park, Thailand

Somewhere in between our Thai island-hopping escapades we got word of Khao Sok National Park, supposedly a jungle older and more diverse than the Amazon. Khao Sok is riddled with limestone cliffs, exotic jungles, giant flowers and...king cobras! Although cobras are rarely seen, our interest was sparked.

We planned only a couple days in Khao Sok but 2-3 days is more than enough. We joined a tour via our hotel (and because we used their tours, we got discounted rooms!) and visited Chiew Larn Lake by boat, ultimately arriving at some neat, rustic bungalows sandwiched between the jungle and the lake. We kayaked, laid in the sun, swam and laid out some more. Others had the option of walking through a pitch-black cave in the jungle--we opted to skip this because we had seen enough caves.

We really enjoyed our few days hanging out at Khao Sok. While the islands are soooo beautiful, it was great to have a change of scenery and see a different side of Thailand. Khao Sok is easily accessible from Krabi Town (only a 2.5 hour minivan ride), Phuket and Surat Thani (2 hour minivan ride).

Surprisingly enough we didn't see alot of creepy crawly things you'd expect to see in a jungle (fine by me though!). But it is fun to say "hey remember when we swam in that lake surrounded by a jungle filled with cobras and spiders the size of your face?" ;) ;).
